Six signs your Southport garden needs artificial grass
Gardens around Southport face two very different problems. Near the coast the soil is sand, so lawns scorch and thin out in summer. Inland, on the mosslands, the ground stays wet and lawns turn to mud. Artificial grass deals with both.
-
It turns to mud every winter
Inland from Southport, on the West Lancashire mosslands and heavier soils, lawns hold water for months. A free-draining base under artificial grass lets the rain away, so the garden is usable after a downpour.
-
It goes brown and patchy in summer
Much of Southport and Formby sits on sand. It drains fast, which is why lawns near the coast scorch and thin out in a dry spell. Artificial grass stays green without a drop of water.
-
The dog has worn it out
Running tracks, dug holes and muddy paws. A pet-friendly lawn copes with all of it and rinses clean with a hose.
-
It is too shady to grow
Under trees and beside tall fences, grass turns to moss and bare earth. Artificial grass looks the same in shade as it does in sun.
-
You are tired of mowing
No mowing, feeding, weeding or watering. For plenty of people, getting their weekends back is reason enough.
-
Weeds and moss have taken over
Once weeds and moss outnumber the grass, a fresh start is easier than a rescue. A weed membrane goes under every lawn we lay.

Artificial grass in Southport: your questions answered
Straight answers to the questions we are asked most about artificial grass. If yours is not here, call or send us a message.
How much does artificial grass cost in Southport?
It depends on the size of the area, how much ground preparation it needs, access to the garden and the grass range you choose. We visit, measure up and give you a fixed written quote, so you know the full cost before any work starts.
How long does artificial grass installation take?
Most gardens take between one and four days. Small lawns are often finished in a day or two, while large gardens, putting greens and sites with difficult access take longer. We confirm the timescale when we survey.
Is artificial grass safe for dogs and children?
Yes. The grass we install is non-toxic, soft underfoot and UV-stabilised, and the base lets liquids drain straight through. For dog owners our Pooch range has a latex-free backing that helps stop odours, and for play areas we can add a shock pad under the grass.
Does artificial grass drain properly?
It does when it is installed properly. The grass has a perforated backing and is laid on a compacted, free-draining aggregate base, so rain runs through rather than sitting on top. That matters in Southport, where gardens range from fast-draining sand near the coast to heavy, wet ground inland.
How long does artificial grass last?
With good groundwork and a little care, an artificial lawn typically lasts ten to fifteen years or more. Every installation is guaranteed, and the length of the guarantee depends on the grass range, so we confirm it in writing with your quote.
Can I buy artificial grass from you to fit myself?
No. We only carry out full installations, which means we can stand behind the groundwork as well as the grass. We do not supply grass for DIY projects.
Will weeds grow through artificial grass?
Very rarely. We lay a weed-suppressing membrane under every lawn, which stops weeds growing up from below. The odd seed can land and sprout on the surface, but it pulls out easily or can be brushed away.
Do I need planning permission for artificial grass?
Normally not, for an ordinary front or back garden laid on a free-draining base. If your home is listed or you are unsure, we will advise you at the survey.
Which areas around Southport do you cover?
All of Southport, including Birkdale, Ainsdale, Hillside, Churchtown and Crossens, and the places around it: Formby, Ormskirk, Burscough, Banks, Tarleton, Maghull and Crosby.
Do you offer a free site survey?
Yes. The site survey and quote are free, and there is no obligation to go ahead. Call 07779 710559 or send the enquiry form to arrange a time.
